Tiglin talk
In YSI this year our topic is homelessness. We got an organisation called Tiglin I’m to talk to us and make us more aware what is happening out on the streets as they would have faced it second hand. They told us about the work they do and how they have a truck called “no bucks” and they transport food and clothing and they even take some homeless on the bus with them .
One man called John told us a very personal story about his first hand encounter of himself being homeless. I have never heard more of an amazing story in my life. Johns story was so moving and powerful I nearly brought me to tears.
Nobody knew John was homeless at the start but by the end of the talk they looked at John differently because everybody was shocked how well he is doing now.
I learnt so much from that talk and is one of the best I have ever heard. It gave the YSI group such an insight of what really needs to be done and how do we do it

Dignity bags for homeless
Dignity bags
We came up with an idea of creating dignity bags containing lots of essentials for the winter for the homeless. Each year group had an assigned item to bring in every toilet roll , hats, toothbrushes etc....We packed over 200 bags containing clothes, toiletries, food and personal items. It was great fun making the dignity bags because you knew that each bag was going to help somebody so much out on the streets.
When all the bags were packed we brought them out to the Tiglin bus “no bucks” . We loaded them up and gave Tiglin a cheque of €1,200.00 which they were so thankful for. Hopefully all our dignity bags helped people on the streets at Christmas this year

PETER MC VERY TRUST WORK
YSI SPEAKER - Mr FRANCES DOHERTY
On Wednesday we had a man called Frances Doherty come in from Peter McVery. We brought the speaker in to give us more knowledge and ideas about our homelessness project for YSI. He went into detail about what the organisation does and how they do it . His facts were incredible and he also gave us a few ideas to think about raising awareness of homelessness. Hopefully all the information will link into our project and make it more factual.

Carol singing
On Thursday 21st of December the YSI team went to St Stephens Green shopping centre with ladies from Peter Mc Very. We sang for 2 hours in our Christmas jumpers. It was so much fun and I enjoyed every minute of it . It was a fantastic experience and something that I probably won’t do again and I took the most out of it .
One of the Peter Mc very ladies told us that we were a great bunch and really engaged a lot of people. So many people joined in in the dancing and singing. I will never forget a Christmas song ever again! We raised over €790.00 which is amazing seeing as we only sang for 2 hours. It was my first time doing anything like that and I enjoyed myself so much and had a great laugh with everybody and the teachers
