HOCKEY 2017-2018 (school)
It was a busy and competitive year for all the girls involved in hockey this year. With 4th year representation on both the Junior and Senior teams.
The junior team captained by Jennifer Corson had a great league and cup run. In the cup, they reached the semi-finals betting King Hospital and Mount Anville on the way before losing narrowly to Muckross Park (1 nil).
They had an excellent run also in the South Dublin league, winning 2 of their 3 matches.
The Senior team had a slow start to the year where we found the league games difficult to find our rhythm and convert close games to wins or even draws. Adding to this we had a small unexpected reshuffle of coaches, but after some initial panic all the girls refocused and worked extremely hard for Sarah Scott and Lena Tice.
Our Cup run was challenging but we had the belief we could progress through the rounds on the back of all the hours training on the pitch along with the great fitness and conditioning provided by Sami Dowling. You have to remember the preparation that went into the season started back in late June. While other schools were relaxing we were running the loop on the rugby pitches, squatting in the gym, pushing weighted sleds (vomiting!!!), along with putting in the hours on the pitch.
The cup draws put us up against Alex, Rathdown and then Mount Anville in the quarter finals where we lost 2-1 to a very strong and competitive Mount Anville team. While it was disappointing to not go further in the cup, we now have a strong belief within the senior school to keep the high standards and performance set by previous years. Finally, I need to mention the huge commitment our school has made with our fantastic new pitch, which is the envy of every visiting school. Let’s hope we can continue to create great memories and successes for many years to come.

MUCKROSS HOCKEY 2017-2018 (juniors)
This year I had a big part to play in Muckross which is my club. The season started in August where preseason was a test to us all! It was my last year to be part of the junior cup and league squad. Also it was my first year playing senior hockey and I was very lucky and proud to be part of the 2nds squad ran by Simon person and Gary Ruddock. It was such a huge change in pace and aggression towards the game. I was one of the youngest on the team this year but that did not stop me !
I was appointed vice captain of the junior team and to be honest it was quite difficult at the start because there were 3rd years and 4th years on the team and it was all our first time playing together. After a few team bonding we all started playing as a team and put more trust in one another. Our league flew by and we won all are matches so we were on a high wining streak. When the annual Jaccui Potter cup started we all needed to compose our selves and not lose focus because the win could be wipped away from us during any match. I was determined to leave the team this year on a high and of course wanted to win both cup and league. That’s what we did we had a tough battle against railway once again in the jaccui Potter final but that definitely did not stop us . We rose to the occasion and won 2-1. It was such an amazing feeling because I know that myself and the team left our heart and souls on the pitch that day.

MUCKROSS HOCKEY 2017-2018 (seniors)
This year it was a great experience to be part of Muckross senior 2nds. I loved every minute of it. I would train on a Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7:30- 9:00. I would get a lift with my captain Lauren Murray. Everybody on the team was so lovely and it was great to get to know older girls who are in college and who are working and understand what they did when they finished school. Training sessions were made fun and I never left the without laughing my head off bout something. I really felt part of a family when I joined the senior side of Muckross.
We we started the league off really well even though they were the toughest matches I had ever played. The pace of the game was out of this world and I was playing against women who were twice or three times my age. I loved the standard and knew that it was going to be a great year. Our cup run was even better we were focused and determined and wanted to show the club that we were meant to be in division 2. We proved them all and secured our place in div 2 be wining our final against Corinthians in three rock 2 weeks ago . It really was a great achievement for the club as juniors did fantastic and seniors on top of that. Muckross Calum were most definitely on a huge wining streak.
We also had many team bondings such as escape adventure rooms, boojum for dinner and house party’s. I can’t wait for next season and hope that this years luck with follow into next years!
