LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL
This years musical for 4th year was Legally Blonde. When they announced this I was so surprised as I didn’t know it was even a musical! Soon after it was time for the auditions. To be honest i was very nervous walking into the hall for auditions because I really don’t like acting and singing in front of people. But I knew I would regret not giving it a go. We had to dance, act and sing which was a challenge. I got call backs which ment there was a good chance I would get a part.
I was ecstatic when they called out my name for Pilar who was a main part. I knew I had so much hard work to put in but I did not realise it would take that much work.. Aisling definitely had us show fit for the musical days. The choreography was so difficult and I had no idea I could actually dance like that !! After weeks of rehearsals sweat and only a few tears I realised I was unable to keep my part. I got offered an unbelievable work experience job. I had applied months before the musical and I didn’t think I got it but then I got a call and was over the moon. Mrs Olahan and I talked and I had to give up my part, I was so upset because I thought somehow I could keep it. At this stage I was only really getting into my part and was enjoying it so much because before hand I hated it. Of course I wanted the show to run smoothly without any mistakes so I agreed and gave up my part which was not easy.
Even though my part was taken off me I did not let that stop me in any way I participated in anyway possible, trying to be in as many dances as possible and singing in the wings and helping main characters during quick changes. I really did enjoy it and was happy that I could do my work experience and participate in the musical .
When the day came for our matinee it was all very exciting we got to wear our costumes for the first time and do our makeup which I loved. My favourite part of the musical was doing the boys makeup they hated it but I loved it. The time everybody shared sitting around at rehearsals or the girls doing their makeup together chatting were the times that I cherished during the musical .
I forgot how nerve wreaking it was to go on stage unable to see the audience because of bright lights and fog blocking the distance. It helped in a way because it looked like nobly was there. All the shows ran smoothly and it was an amazing experience and I still can’t get the songs out of my head. It was a time of decision making for me between my part and work experience. It was also a time to show our parents teachers and Mr Geraghty what kind of year we actually are and if we put our minds to something we can do it.
